Renegades Football Rebounds Against Cyclones

Aug. 30, 2010 | 0 comments

After starting off their season 0-3, playing against the league's top 2 teams, the Oak Creek Renegades rebounded Saturday night beating the Lake County Cyclones 18-0. The Renegades inaugural win in the Wisconsin State Football League (WSFL) puts them at 1-3 for the season and 1-2 in the conference.

The offense, which was basically non-existent in the first 3 weeks, came alive with the arrival of David Davis, a quarterback. Davis threw for 133 yards completing 6 of 12 passes with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. On the receiving end of Davis' passes were James Brown (2 catches, 73 yards), Christopher Baum (3 catches, 52 yards, 1 touchdown) and Jeff Westphal (1 catch, 8 yards). The running game proved to be instrumental as well as Charles "Chucky" McGwire had 48.5 yards on 5 carries (9.7 avg) with 1 touchdown and Dominique Robinson's 37 yards on 6 carries (6.2 avg).

Even though the offense scored 2 touchdowns, the first score came on a low snap on a Renegades field goal attempt that resulted in Sean Saglin, the placeholder, running the ball in through several defenders. The second score game on a 3 yard pass from Davis to Baum and the last score came on McGwire's 2 yard run after a 40 yard catch by Baum.

The defense was lead by Daniel Hamilton, who had 4 tackles and Michael Porter, 3 tackles, 1 assist and 1 pass deflection. Charlie Castona had 3 tackles and 1 assist and Nathan Miner had 2 tackles and 1 sack. The remainder of the defense contributed significantly as well.

The Renegades next home games will be Saturday, September 18th and Sunday, September 26th. Both games will be charity games in which part of the gate will be donated to the Oak Creek Stadium Renovation Fund.

Also, the Renegades are looking for 7 individuals, families and/or businesses to donate $250 to help them purchase new jerseys. Donors will get a free pair of tickets for the remaining home games along with any home playoff games should the Renegades make it.
